Lane closures set for 347 monument installation

Those looking to get out of or back into the city Saturday morning will face morning lane closures on State Route 347.

The city will close the inside lanes on State Route 347 to protect workers as they move into the final stages of the median improvement project through town. According to city Director of Public Services Mike Riggs, the traffic control changes are as follows:

– Traffic control will be in effect from Smith-Enke north to Lakeview Ave. Saturday, Jan. 22 from 6 a.m.-noon. Riggs said construction crews are working Saturday to keep the project on schedule.

– Beginning Monday, Jan. 24 and continuing through Thursday, Feb. 4, southbound traffic will be restricted to one lane entering the city from 5:30 a.m. until noon Mondays-Fridays.

Flags in the median at the north end of town denote where the monument will be placed, with that location lying inside the city limits.

The $2 million project, which runs from the overpass to the city’s northern border, is adding plants, boulders, ornamental lighting and gabion baskets – the wire structures filled with river rock – to the median of the city’s primary transportation route.

Once the median project is complete the city will begin work to expand and improve traffic flow at the intersection of John Wayne Parkway and Smith-Enke Road. The start and completion dates and scope of lane closures, if any, have not yet been determined for that project.
