Ace Hardware Owner David Karsten presents fundraising campaign check to MHS Football Coach Brandon Harris

Ace Hardware owner David Karsten presented a fundraising check for $1,600 to the MHS Rams Football Booster Club Saturday morning.

Last month, three shifts of Maricopa High School football players held a car wash at the local hardware store, raising about $1,400. The business also launched an Ace cash register round-up campaign, raising another $1,600 for the Boosters.

“We all can agree that this is a difficult time to be a student and to participate in team sports,” Karsten said. “When the community comes together to support organizations like these, it reminds us of how dependent on each other we really are and how small acts of kindness can make a huge difference.”

Head coach Brandon Harris, Booster Club members and a handful of players visited the store Saturday to accept the check. Karsten and store manager William Gonzalez met with the booster club and chatted with Rams players.

“On behalf of the Maricopa Rams football program, our boosters, our volunteers, our students, and our football players, we just want to thank you for hosting our car wash,” Harris said. “It helps us meet some of the needs in our football program.”

“He’s been amazing,” Booster Club member Erica Jimenez said of Karsten, who bought the Ace hardware business in February from longtime owner Mike Richey.

Karsten “thinks of the things we need before we ask,” club member Kellie Maruska added. “If we need anything, he’s the first one to step up and make it happen.”
