Maintenance crews from Arizona Department of Transportation completed the initial phase of repairs on State Routes 238 and 347 within city limits during Presidents’ Day weekend, it said.

ADOT crews did light milling to reduce rough areas and patched potholes on SR 347 from Lakeview Drive to the northern city limits and on SR 238 from Loma to Ralston roads.

The work on SR 238 required drivers to detour south to Farrell Road to avoid road closure. The right lane of northbound SR 347 was closed during work.

As part of the long-term solution on SR 347, ADOT is partnering with Maricopa to improve driver and pedestrian safety by:

  • Adding a northbound lane from SR 238/Smith-Enke Road to the northern city limits.
  • Rehabilitating existing pavement.
  • Installing sidewalks.
  • Adding an improved traffic signal at Lakeview Drive.

Pavement on that segment of SR 347 will be completely reconstructed as part of an autumn project and, “will provide a long-term solution to the current pavement issues near Lakeview Drive,” an ADOT spokesman said.

Construction on the major elements of the project is scheduled to begin this fall.

The work is part of the city’s plan to make as many improvements as possible to the state highways within city limits. Maricopa gained that right last year when ADOT ceded control within city limits.
