Police personnel work a scene in a Maricopa neighborhood.

On Thanksgiving day, Maricopa Police responded to a situation at the 45500 block of Dirk Street in Maricopa Meadows after shots were fired. The Pinal County Regional SWAT also assisted.

Residents in the area of Dirk Street were asked to shelter in place for nearly four and half hours while police worked to resolve the situation.

Maricopa Police Sgt. Hal Koozer reported that the suspect was a female adult who had fired a gun in the rear of the property.

The incident happened at 1:47 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they learned a nine-year child was within the residence.  A perimeter was established and numerous attempts to make contact with the female subject with no success.  The primary concern was the welfare of the child.

After several hours, the nine year old child was safely removed from the residence and the female subject was placed in custody without incident. No one was injured.
