Ahwatukee soccer club hosting tryouts

332

The Ahwatukee Foothills Soccer Club will be hosting tryouts for Maricopa players interested in taking up the sport or looking for an opportunity to expand their game through May 22.

The club offers teams in 11 different age brackets, and players can move up to play on a more competitive team, but they cannot move down, according to Becky Salazar, administrator for the organization.

The tryouts will take part at Pecos Park, 17010 S. 48th St., on each of the listed days with the exception of May 2. On that day, the organization will travel to Maricopa to host a tryout at Pacana Park, 19000 N. Porter, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Currently, the organization does not have a team based in Maricopa, but, if the numbers warrant it, Salazar said a team could be added to represent the city. Even if enough kids aren’t available to construct a team of strictly Maricopa youth, Salazar said if enough children from the area are on a team it would be possible to hold a training session in the area on occasion.

The Awatukee Foothills Soccer Club was formed in 1999 and competes with 20 other competitive clubs from across the Valley. They offer a competitive program costing up to $1,200 a year and a recreational program.
