Allen, Meador crowned Homecoming king and queen

While the Rams battled to beat the Gophers on the field (see related story), another competition brewed on the sideline.

Seniors Toni Meador and Jerry Allen came out on top of the competition and were crowned the 2007 Homecoming King and Queen.

“It was really exciting,” Meador said.

A cheerleader for all four years of high school, and the senior class treasurer, Meador did not think it would be her name called during the halftime ceremony.

“I only found out I was in the running two days before the crowning,” Meador said. “I really didn’t even have time to campaign.”

Allen, who is currently working on the upcoming school play, also made a last-minute decision to enter the competition. He was fairly confident he would win, however, as his only worry was that the other two contenders knew more people.

Allen said he is humbled by winning, and he looks at his crown as another accomplishment during his high school years.

Although the royal couple do not get any special privileges at school, Meador said the benefits include bragging rights and a picture in the yearbook.
