Halloween was a special day for area children in kindergarten and first grade at Pima Butte and Santa Rosa Elementary schools. They were treated to candy courtesy of Mayor Kelly Anderson and the City of Maricopa.

“It was a good introduction to those age groups for the city,” Mayor Anderson commented. “By having the Mayor and the Parks and Recreation Director pass out candy, it allowed us a chance to interact with the future of Maricopa.”

Mayor Anderson’s new Halloween endeavor has been titled “Trick or Treat with the Mayor.” It allows school age children a chance to interact with the Mayor and learn more about the City of Maricopa…from a kid’s point of view.

“We covered a wide range of responsibilities and functions for what the city does, mainly the scope behind Parks and Recreation,” Mayor Anderson stated. “Our kids need park and recreation activities, not necessarily sports programs, but dance, art and music as well. To borrow Mr. McDonald’s phrase, we are trying to ‘Create Community Through People, Parks and Programs.’ Events such as these reinforce my goal to have Maricopa recognized as a community with a heart.”

In all, Mayor Anderson visited a total of 450 children. As he handed out candies to various ghouls and goblins, he reminded each child to be safe on Halloween and to use caution while trick-or-treating.
