Get ready to empty out those crammed garages. Maricopa’s Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved plans for a fourth storage facility during a meeting Monday evening.

Storage 365 submitted plans to the city in January for the construction of a three-story enclosed storage facility featuring climate-controlled units, as well as five single-story buildings for drive-up units. The facility will be built on a three-acre plot located southeast of Honeycutt and Gunsmoke roads.

Storage 365, a Texas-based storage business, began expanding into Arizona in 2020 with construction currently taking place for facilities in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Goodyear.

Commissioner Rachel Leffall, a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission, said this step of the process typically includes ensuring plans meet building codes and reviewing traffic analyses. Aside from clarification on emergency exits in the plans, no concerns were presented.

And as for the next steps?

“The city staff will now work with the business and it will be presented to city council (at a later date),” Leffall said.
