Anytime Fitness is under new ownership as of Feb. 1.

Maricopa resident Brian Mullins sold his gym, a local franchise of the national chain, to Brent and Brad Richardson, two brothers from Queen Creek.

“Some of the best experiences in my life have been here,” Mullins said.

But, he added, “it was time” to move on. He opened the gym in 2005.

Selling the gym “will give me the opportunity to pursue other things,” he said.

Brent Richardson said he is familiar with Maricopa because he’s dove hunted in the area for the past 20 years.

Richardson and his brother own two other Anytime Fitness gyms, one in Queen Creek and one in Bullhead City.

The prices for existing members wouldn’t change and membership will be honored at other locations, he said.

Richardson said he and his brother plan to do some remodeling, including repainting the gym and rearranging the equipment.

Also, personal televisions will be put on the treadmills and elliptical machines.

The two hope to add equipment, specifically treadmills, of which he said “they definitely need more.”

Prior to getting into the gym business, Richardson was a full-time pastor. He continues in that role part time.

While pastor for The Grove church in Gilbert, a church member told him about the Anytime Fitness franchise.

“We just thought it was a good business to get involved in,” Richardson said.
