Arizona DPS seizes nearly $800,000 in U.S. currency during November

Several traffic stops by Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers along with the efforts of DPS criminal investigators resulted in the seizure of $790,362 in drug money during the month of November. All of the money seized was U.S. currency.

One of the largest money seizures by DPS during this period occurred on Nov. 25 when a DPS canine officer stopped a vehicle for several traffic violations on Interstate 40 near Flagstaff. During a consent search of the vehicle the officer located $188,740 in U.S. currency. Both the vehicle and cash were seized, and the suspect disclaimed the money.

“This single traffic stop shows what law enforcement is facing in the ongoing battle against drug cartels doing business in Arizona. Thanks to the professionalism of these DPS officers, these arrests will help our criminal investigators follow the money that will hopefully lead to more arrests in the effort to keep our communities safe,” said Roger Vanderpool, director of the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
