On Wednesday a member of the Assessor’s Office will be in the Casa Grande office of Supervisor David Snider to accept applications for widow, widower’s and disabled person’s tax exemptions. The staff member will be accepting applications from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on February 1.

To qualify for the property tax exemption, the applicant must meet the general eligibility qualifications:
* Must be a permanent resident of Arizona.
* Assessed value of all property owned in Arizona cannot exceed $20,905.
* Income cannot exceed $25,637 per household, or $30,764, if children under the age of 18 reside in the same household.

Widow-Widower Exemption:
In addition to the general qualifications, the claimant must have been a resident of Arizona with spouse at the time of the spouse’s death. If the spouse died while a resident of another state, the claimant must have established residency in Arizona prior to January 1, 1969. You must present the death certificate of the deceased spouse to the Assessor’s representative. (Do not forget that, if you received this tax exemption last year, you must file an application again this year if you qualify.)

Disabled Person Exemption:
In addition to the general qualifications, the claimant must provide certification by a licensed physician or psychiatrist of the total permanent disability that is expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months. The Assessor’s representative will have the medical forms available at the Mammoth office. The claimant must also be over 17 years old.

Applicants must bring the following documents with them to the Casa Grande office:
* 2005 Arizona state income tax return
* Title/tax bills or receipts for mobile homes
* License plate number for all motor vehicles
* Certified or original copy of death certificate
* Copy of prior year’s tax bills or valuation cards
