MUSD takes five awards in Future Cities competition

Students and teachers from MUSD20+1, the district’s blended-learning program at Maricopa Wells Middle School, won five awards Saturday in the state’s Future Cities competition.

The three teachers in the program – Robyn Rice, Joseph Szoltysik and William Lange – received the Educational Exellence Award.

“All of the students received many compliments on their cities and their presentations on solving the problem of storm-water runoff,” teacher William Lange said.

Teams of students built 13 cities of the future with movable parts. While none are going to the national competition in Washington, D.C., three Maricopa Wells cities received four state awards.

Saturdays competition was held at Arizona State University Preparatory Academy and the theme for the 2012-13 competition was “Rethink Runoff: Design clean solutions to manage storm water pollution.”
