Child Safety Open House

Maricopa Black Belt Academy will hold a community child safety open house on Saturday, Sept. 29, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 44400 W. Honeycutt Road, Suite 103.

The open house is part of the American Taekwondo Association (ATA) Martial Arts’ worldwide initiative to help minimize the risk of child abduction through education. As part of the safety campaign, ATA has partnered with AMBER Alert.com to increase AMBER Alert notification via e-mail and personal communication devices.

The local event, held in conjunction with ATA’s Child Safety Month in September, presents an abduction education program called “Kidz in Power” and possible stranger dangers, methods to deal with bullies and child ID cards and fingerprinting. Also in attendance, Maricopa Police Department’s own Sgt. Pepper and GooBurr the clowns will share information regarding other types of safety concerns.

Copa Cheer Booster Club

The Copa Cheer Booster Club, a group of parents and sponsors who have come together to support the cheerleaders of Maricopa High School, are looking to provide funding for uniforms, camps, future competitions and general support of the cheerleaders.

The club is doing this by assigning annual dues to each booster member and holding fundraisers. CCBC is looking for corporate and business sponsors who would be willing to provide monetary donations. Their promise to donors as a donating business is to let the community know that they support Maricopa’s youth.

For more information on donating, call (520) 568-5839.
