Central Arizona College offers both an associate of applied science (A.A.S.) degree and a certificate in accounting. Through online and face-to-face teaching, students can complete the degree or certificate at the Maricopa campus.

“CAC’s accounting program is designed for those seeking entry-level accounting positions,” Christopher Demaline, professor of accounting at CAC, said. “Because of this, the curriculum is very comprehensive and prepares our students to enter the workforce.”

The 65-credit hour A.A.S. degree is designed specifically for those desiring an entry-level accounting position and is not meant for students planning to transfer to a four-year university. In addition to the general education requirements, accounting students are required to take courses in financial and managerial accounting, income tax procedures, and accounting with QuickBooks Pro, among others.

Those seeking the accounting certificate will navigate a similar curriculum but without the general education requirements.

At the conclusion of the degree or certificate program, students will achieve a number of learning outcomes, including the ability to demonstrate entry-level competencies for employment in the accounting field, explain the mechanics of a complete set of accounting records, and analyze how the legal and regulatory environment of business affects the practice of accounting.
