CAC’s new Maricopa campus opens Jan. 2

After roughly 12 months of construction, Central Arizona College’s new campus in Maricopa will open for business Jan. 2.

CAC will offer a variety of courses at both the new campus and the existing Maricopa Center when the spring semester begins Jan. 18.

Students can register online at CentralAZ.edu or visit the Maricopa Center, 20800 N. John Wayne Parkway, Suite 104. The new campus is at 17945 N. Regent Drive adjacent to the Legacy Traditional School.

Course offerings include:

ACC 121, Income Tax Fundamentals: Tuesdays, 6 to 8:45 p.m.

Theory, rules and procedures used in preparing Federal Income Tax Returns for individuals, corporations and partnerships both manually and with the use of computer software.

AJS 230, The Police Function: Thursdays, 6 to 8 p.m.

Theories of procedures and methods of operation of public police emphasizing discretionary powers, with a survey of career opportunities and current trends in law enforcement.

ART 107, Painting I: Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

An introduction to painting, techniques and subject matter with emphasis on skill building.

BUS 122, Small Business Management: Thursdays, 3 to 4:15 p.m.

Factors in planning, owning and managing a small business with use of case materials to develop entrepreneurship and managerial/marketing skills.

CIS 123, Introduction to Programming: Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:30 to 5:45 p.m.

Introduction to structured programming techniques and various logic tools including flow charting, pseudocode and other tools that represent algorithms. Problem analysis is based on the input/process/output cycle using appropriate case studies.

CUL 110, Asian Cuisine: Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Discover the flavors, ingredients and culinary traditions of Asian cuisine through this hands-on class. Appreciate the differences between Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese cooking ingredients and techniques. Learn to make Asian appetizers, soups, entrees and desserts.

ENG 200, Intro to Creative Writing: Mondays and Wednesdays, 3 to 4:15 p.m.

An introduction to the craft of various literary forms (creative nonfiction, poetry and fiction) emphasizing readings, composing practice and revising various creative pieces for an audience.

SPA 102, Elementary Spanish II: Wednesdays, 6 to 9:30 p.m.

Refinement of basic communication skills in Spanish, emphasizing reading, writing, speaking and listening exercises. Survey of cultural norms, beliefs and traditions from areas where Spanish is spoken.
