Four people received minor injuries in a collision around 6:30 a.m. when one Hyundai Sonata attempted to make a left turn from Edwards Avenue onto the North John Parkway and crashed with another Hyundai Sonata traveling south on the parkway.

Maricopa Police Officer Jim Thwarts responded to the collision and said the silver Hyundai Sonata with a female driver and no passengers was turning turn left onto the parkway and collided with the maroon Hyundai Sonata.

Thwarts and Officer A.J. Leach were still at the scene around 8 a.m. cleaning up after the crash.

“She said she thought the car was coming across the tracks when she turned,” Thwarts said.

Thwarts said he did not interview the other driver, who had one adult and two juvenile passengers, but said the shattered windshield on the maroon Hyundai Sonata was caused by an air bag deploying.

Neither driver has been cited pending an investigation, said Officer Ricardo Alvarado, a MPD spokesman.
