Tipped cement truck snarls traffic on SR 347

Traffic crept most of the day on State Route 347 after a cement truck overturned at the intersection with Smith-Enke Road and there was a delay in getting the appropriate tow truck to the scene.

Maricopa police waited throughout the morning and early afternoon for two heavy-duty tow trucks, finally clearing the intersection by 2 p.m.

“It really does take a long time to clear an intersection,” said Office Jenny Alsidez, MPD public information officer.

The truck was traveling southbound on State Route 347 and attempting to make a left turn onto Smith-Enke Friday morning when it tipped over and hit a traffic light, Alsidez said.

The eastbound lane on Smith-Enke and State Route 347’s northbound lane were closed.

Some cement was spilled as a result of the crash, and the traffic light was damaged but still operational, Alsidez said.

She said police “do everything we can,” including rerouting traffic and setting up detours to keep traffic flowing safely while crews and police work on the accident scene.

There were no injuries.
