CAC choral program seeks talent

The Central Arizona College choral program is accepting new members to learn and perform at its Signal Peak Campus.

Current CAC students, as well as members of the community, are invited to choose from three choirs this fall to enhance their vocal chords and share their talents.

Two separate sections of CAC’s College Choir course currently are being offered for the fall semester. The CAC College Choir performs a variety of music, including classical, popular, folk, contemporary and multicultural selections.

“Being a member of a choral group is a great way for a person who enjoys singing to have an opportunity to both use and improve their skills,” Kim Osteen-Petreshock, director of the choral program at CAC, said. “It's also a great way to meet other people who enjoy making music.”

The first section will meet 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The second also referred to as Community Choir, will meet 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Mondays.

Neither of these two groups requires an audition to participate, and while not mandatory, prior experience and music-reading ability is helpful.

These classes have an extended registration period so students unable to register for the College Choir will be permitted to attend the first class of the semester.

The third offering, the CAC Jazz Choir, is a smaller group focusing primarily on jazz music and some popular music. The group will meet noon to 1:15 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. A brief audition is required for acceptance into Jazz Choir; arrangements can be made by contacting Osteen-Petreshock.

All three choral groups meet in Room 104 of the Pence Center at the Signal Peak Campus, 8470 N. Overfield Road, Coolidge, and begin rehearsing Aug. 19.

“All choirs participate in two major concerts per semester – one around the middle of the semester and one at the end,” Osteen-Petreshock said.

To register for one of these three vocal performance opportunities, contact an academic adviser. For more information about the CAC choral programs, or to arrange an audition for the Jazz Choir, contact Osteen-Petreshock at 520-560-5779 or [email protected].
