Central Arizona College will offer GED classes to help students earn their General Educational Development diploma and English Language Acquisition for Adults (ELAA or ESL) classes at its new Maricopa campus. Registration begins Aug. 1.

GED and ESL classes are offered at no charge for Arizona residents. Students may pre-register with proof of legal presence in the United States.

ESL classes will be 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays starting Aug. 19 in room C116 at the CAC Maricopa Campus, 17945 W. Regent Road. GED classes will be 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Aug. 20 in rooms C115 and C116.

On Jan. 1, the GED exam will change to a computer-based test aligned with the Common Core Standards.

Anyone who started the tests under the current GED Series 2002 must complete and pass all five parts of the exam by Dec. 31 or they will be required to start over in January with the new test that is expected to be more expensive and complex.

Pre-testing for English Language Acquisition for Adults classes will be required prior to the first day of class, and test dates will be provided at the time of registration.
