Input on city ethics, zoning codes sought

Public discussion on two city projects – developing a city code of ethics and reworking the zoning code – will be held Tuesday.

An ethics task force created by Mayor Christian Price will hold its first meeting Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall, 45145 W. Madison Ave.

The task force was formed partly in response to an investigation last summer into alleged inappropriate workplace conduct by Alan Marchione, a former Maricopa city councilman.

Although the investigation’s final report said Marchione did not sexually harass or threaten city staff, Bill Sims, the Phoenix attorney the city hired to investigate the complaints, pointed out the city council had no disciplinary measures in place.

Sims recommended the city council adopt a city code of ethics and censure provision.

Marchione resigned in October.

Price said he wanted the task force to adopt a “looking-forward” attitude and ensure there is “a framework in place for future incidents.”

Price said he did not how long the process would take or how many meetings would be needed to develop a city code of ethics.

“I want to do it right, not right now,” Price said.
