City council to discuss bus services and economic development plan

The Maricopa City Council will host its first and only November meeting this Tuesday. Here is a look at the hot topics for the council’s work and regular sessions.

5:30 p.m. work session

Economic Development Plan: Council members will give input for an economic development plan that will help guide city growth for the next three to five years. The plan is being designed through the Maricopa Economic Development Alliance, a private, non-profit organization established in 2009 to work as a non-attached limb of the city to help attract businesses jobs to Maricopa.

7 p.m. regular session

Finance Status report: Council is scheduled to adopt the first quarter financial status report. The report details revenue collections and spending by the city during the first three months. The item is scheduled for the consent agenda, which means there will be no discussion on the item unless council chooses to move it the regular agenda.

Bus Service: Council is scheduled to hear a status update on the city’s circular and commuter bus services. The circular service was launched Oct. 1 and the commuter service was drastically overhauled the same day. Since then, council passed a measure to makes rides free on both services until Jan. 1 in hopes of building up the number of riders.
