The City of Maricopa is excited to offer an opportunity for local nonprofit agencies to provide academic scholarships to high school students in Maricopa.

The City Council, at its Nov. 16 meeting, allocated $10,000 to implement the new program.

The new program will help Maricopa’s youth succeed academically by making higher education more accessible, thereby developing a highly educated workforce in Maricopa. In addition, the program will assist in building lasting partnerships between the city and local community organizations while instilling a sense of community service in Maricopa’s youth.

To be eligible to participate in the program, an organization must have a 501 (c) 3 status, must provide existing services or contributions to Maricopa residents and must provide financial proof indicating the ability to pay their portion of the match by Feb. 28, 2011.

The application process opens today (Nov. 30) and continues through Jan. 31, 2011.
