This year, Trunk or Treat will be in several Maricopa neighborhoods.

Over the past nine years, Maricopa Trunk or Treat has become a staple of Halloween, thanks to Church of Celebration.

Pastor Joshua Barrett has always seen it as a service to the community and said the impact of the event has gone beyond wildest expectations.

“Our goal for Trunk or Treat was never to see how many people we could attract to such an event,” he said. “It was primarily to serve you as a community in which we love tremendously, and I think we have been able to accomplish that and more. And for that, again, we say, thank you.”

COC questioned whether there was a new or better way to do something for the community through the Trunk or Treat concept. That has led to a change for this Halloween.

“We began to internally ask ourselves a few questions – What if God wants to do something even better by doing something new at COC for our community?” Barrett said. “What if God has been using this event in the past as an opportunity to build a friendship with you in an even more personal way? What if instead of asking Maricopa to come to us, we went to them?”

So this year, instead of a big gathering in a local parking lot, look for Church of Celebration “Halloweenie Zones” in your neighborhoods on Oct. 31. A Halloweenie Zone is a host home where you can get free candy, free hot dogs and free smiles.

There may be one or more Halloweenie Zone in Maricopa’s various subdivisions that families may come across in their regular door-to-door fun-seeking.

“We can’t wait to see what this new direction might look like, and we look forward to getting to know you even better,” Barrett said. “Thanks again for all you have done to bless us with your participation in this event, and thank you for allowing us to once again serve you in this new and unique approach!”
