Cleanup-Spot-KMB
This spot along Bowlin Road near North Freeland Lane is one of the areas the city has flagged for cleanup during its Keep Maricopa Beautiful campaign. A cleanup event is scheduled for this Saturday from 6-8 a.m.

The City of Maricopa’s Keep Maricopa Beautiful campaign kicks off Saturday, July 31, from 6-8 a.m. with “The Largest City Cleanup in Maricopa History.”

The city is urging anyone who wants to participate to go to its cleanup page, which features an interactive map that allows visitors to scan a QR code and find locations with litter that needs to be picked up. Locations needing cleanup will be marked with a blue point and volunteers can click on each point for site-specific project tips and disposal options.

After cleaning up a site, volunteers will send an e-mail to [email protected] with a photo and the point number of the clean-up site they completed, and the map will be updated in real time to a green flower to show that it was completed. The city will continually update the map as sites are completed until the entire city “goes green.”

Local eatery Rili-B’s is offering vouchers for a free burrito to the first 50 people to submit a photo of their cleanup efforts with the participants from that location to the website. Those after the first 50 to submit photos will receive a coupon for $1 off a burrito.

Proper safety attire and the practice of good safety habits are recommended by the city.
