APEX Motor Club has started construction on the garage condominiums that will be available to members at the track. The 1,250-square-foot units can hold six cars, and are priced beginning at $430,000. Construction is expected to be completed late this summer. [APEX Motor Club]

Construction has begun on the latest phase at APEX Motor Club, the high-end “country club racetrack” located west of Maricopa off State Route 238 on Ralston Road.

According to APEX General Partner Jason Plotke, the initial phase of garage construction will consist of four buildings of 12 condominiums each. Work on the project began Feb. 25, and Plotke said the lots are staked, the pads are prepped, and plumbing and concrete work will begin next week. The target date for completion of the units is sometime in late August or early September.

Although there are 48 units under construction, another phase of 48 units will follow on its heels, and Plotke said there could be more to follow. It is all part of a total investment at APEX of about $35 million.

“We probably have more demand than the 96 units, and if we do, we’d take a look at doing additional phases,” Plotke said. “Those would be farther out away from the track.”

The garage condos have a starting price of $430,000 and are designed to be multi-configurable. Each one spans 1,250 square feet and can be equipped with an optional a 625-square-foot mezzanine for an additional price tag of $25,000. Units closer to the track garner the highest prices, while those farther away cost less.

“I’m sure most of the owners will put in the mezzanine,” Plotke said. He added that the garages can store up to six cars if an auto lift is installed in the unit at an additional cost of about $2,500.

APEX offers an in-house designer for the garages, which owners may choose to use or not, or bring in their own designer. But make no mistake, Plotke said, these are not just metal boxes.

“These are luxury units – they’re not delivered like a box or a steel building,” he said. “They come complete with bathroom, LED lighting, 5-ton HVAC, and plumbing outlets for showers and sinks. They are very nice when compared to, if you want to use the term ‘auto boxes,’ that are available around the country.”

APEX also has a “vault building” that covers 3,600 square feet and can house nearly 50 cars in its triple-stack lift bays.

APEX offers three types of memberships: Gold, Platinum and Corporate, with prices ranging from a $50,000 initiation fee and $5,000 annual dues to an initiation fee of $175,000 with annual dues of $22,500. Plotke said APEX now has more than 250 members, up from about 200 last fall. He said the club will cap membership at 425.

“So, we’re over halfway to our membership goal and we haven’t even finished building the place,” he said.

APEX members utilize the facility the same way an avid golfer would enjoy a private golf club. When completed, the APEX facility it will feature 4.2 total miles of track including a 3,400-foot straightaway. The initial 2.27-mile track has been in place since the track opened in 2018.
