The trip to Coolidge High Friday night for the Maricopa High football team was not a fun one. In fact, one could say it was awful.

Coolidge back Brad Jackson tallied four touchdowns (12 carries/207 yards) as the Bears roared to a 61-12 win over the visiting Rams.

Maricopa High star running back Matt ‘mini bus’ Fierros was held to 79 yards rushing on the night on 10 carries.

Coolidge (1-2) jumped out to a 26-0 lead before Maricopa got on the board on Fierros’ 35-yard TD run.

QB Charlie Garrett passed for a pair of TD’s in the first half for the Bears, who led 26-6 at intermission.

Jackson picked it right up again in the third quarter, scoring on a 74-yard run, making it 32-6. Garrett and Jackson hooked up on a TD pass, while Rodney Reagens (nine, 15 yards) and Jayrome Cade (three yards) added TD runs in the second half.

Maricopa got its final points at the end of the game when QB Will Clemans hooked up with receiver Cody Seymour for the final score.

Maricopa (2-2) will look to get back on track Friday night (Sept. 21) when it hosts Empire High.
