The Blue Pill Mafia defeated the Arizona Heat in a men’s senior USSSA softball tournament at Copper Sky Regional Park on Saturday, 23-20. The tourney included team for 40-and-up and 50-and-up teams.

“A lot of us are trying to push to get more tournaments to Maricopa, especially Copper Sky,” said Kevin McDill of the Heat. “They are the best fields in the state, hands down.”

He credited groundskeeper Jack Mutz and his crew for keeping the fields in playing form.

“It’s just daily maintenance,” Mutz said. “We stay on top of things. Every day is a game for us. Even if it’s a practice, we’re going to give you the same playability every night.”

The Copper Sky fields will be host to the fourth annual Israel “Izzy” Calderon benefit softball tournament March 28. For information, contact McDill at
