Council appoints three new commissioners to Planning & Zoning

Maricopa City Council appointed three new faces to join the Planning & Zoning Commission for three-year terms which will begin when it reconvenes in mid January.

Bruce Houghton, Tom Bradbury and Courtny Tyler each received the necessary motion and second to hold a vote which eventually landed each of them a spot on the governing body which often gets to put the first stamp of approval on each new version of Maricopa’s future.

Houghton, nominated by Mayor Kelly Anderson, touted his extensive experience as a retired engineer. He lives in Cobblestone Farms.

“Maricopa has a tremendous opportunity to become one of the premier communities within Arizona,” he wrote in his application for the post.

Will Dunn made the first motion to appoint Bradbury, whose background includes four years working on a local planning and zoning commission in Pennsylvania.

“We did the planning ourselves,” he said, pointing out the difference between simply approving recommendations based on city staff research and being able to actually understand and carry out such a process first hand.

Tyler was Councilman Edward Farrell’s pick. The outgoing president of the Maricopa Chamber of Commerce said she is also a member of Maricopa Women in Business. In her application, Tyler said she has become “very interested in the future development of Maricopa and would like to contribute to the future growth and success of Maricopa.”
