Pinal County had a dose of better news in the first week in February, reporting just 122 new COVID-19 cases. The total number of positive cases has risen to 43,947 since the beginning of the pandemic nearly a year ago.

More importantly, there was only one hospitalization and no fatalities in the county last week. There have been a total 3,566 people hospitalized with the virus to date and 662 deaths in the county.

To date, nearly 240,000 coronavirus tests have been administered with an overall positivity rate of 14.1 percent.

Pinal County’s overall fatality rate currently sits at 1.51 percent with a hospitalization rate of 8.12 percent and an intensive care admission rate of 0.62 percent. Men account for 52 percent of the cases with 48 percent female.

The county had administered 34,145 vaccines through Friday, Feb. 5. Currently only those in the 1A and 1B categories are eligible to receive the vaccine. Category 1A consists of health care professionals including EMS and paramedics, along with residents of long-term care facilities. Category 1B-1 includes essential workers and infrastructure workers; law enforcement; corrections; the education sector; food and agriculture; utility and transportation workers; and those 65 years and older. Group 1B-2 will include those with high-risk medical conditions.
