Motorists will soon be able to receive their driver’s licenses in Maricopa.

Beginning May 2, Arizona State Express Title & Registration will offer the new service, along with instruction permits for teen drivers and state issued identification cards. Currently, local residents must commute to a Motor Vehicle Department office located outside of Maricopa to get their licenses.

Lewis Green, who manages the MVD-authorized, third-party office in Maricopa, said it is a long time coming.

“A lot of customers were asking for it,” Green said, “lots of people on a daily basis for years, and they hated driving to Casa Grande or to Chandler.”

For 10 years the local office at 20924 N. John Wayne Parkway offered other services like vehicle title and registration, but decided to expand its reach to accommodate customers’ requests.

Green said the office will provide “everything that you’ll be able to get at the state office in the driver’s license area.”

In addition to a road test, license applicants must also successfully complete a parallel parking exercise, he said.

In most cases, Green said customers need to bring two forms of identification with them. For more information on what additional documentation to bring visit http://www.azdot.gov/MVD/driver-services

The office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be reached by phone at 520-568-9299.
