Calling all dance kids: Tuition grants soon will be available for performing-arts students in Maricopa and beyond.

Desert Sun Performing Arts Gems, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to community outreach and performing-arts tuition assistance, announced Feb. 15 the availability of multiple grants. The nonprofit has awarded more than $20,000 in grant funds since it was founded in 2009.

Grants are available for Arizona students ages 2 to 18 who show proof of enrollment in a performing-arts class, who demonstrate financial need based on the organization’s guidelines and who write an age-appropriate essay about why the child wants to participate in performing arts.

Recipients use the grant money toward their performing-arts classes for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

Students chosen for the grants must regularly attend and maintain good standing in their performing-arts classes, as well as complete some community-service hours determined by the selection committee after receiving the award.

Applications are due March 31 and recipients will be notified May 1if they have been selected for a grant award. Applications may be mailed to: DSPA Gems, Inc., P.O. Box 736, Maricopa, AZ 85139.
