Reward offered to help nab golf cart thieves

Thirteen golf carts were stolen from The Duke at Rancho El Dorado Monday night, marking the second such theft in a week.

The first occurred Nov. 28 when three carts apparently were taken for a joy ride, said Corey Parker, manager at The Duke.

The Duke is offering a reward of $1,000 for information leading to the suspects and an additional $1,000 if the information leads to a conviction.

Seven of the carts were driven into the lake at the entrance to The Lakes at Rancho El Dorado subdivision.

“You could see the tops sticking up (out of the water)” on two of the carts, and the rest were “completely submerged,” Parker said.

The other six carts were found around the golf course and appeared to have been “run into objects and each other,” Parker said.

Maricopa Police Officer Jenny Alsidez said one of the carts was driven into an electrical box.

Although the carts were recovered — and the submerged golf ones able to start — Parker said a technician from Yamaha, the cart manufacturer, must assess the damage.
