The Super Bowl and WM Phoenix Open are over, which means weekend freeway closures and lane restrictions resume in the East Valley that could affect Maricopa drivers.

Arizona Department of Transportation recommends drivers allow extra time and plan alternate routes when traveling in affected areas.

Freeway closures include eastbound Interstate 10 from U.S. 60 to Loop 202/Santan Freeway from 10 p.m. tonight, Feb. 17, to 10 p.m. Saturday for construction.

Westbound I-10 will be narrowed to two lanes near Broadway Road at that same time.

Closures include several ramps:

  • Westbound U.S. 60 to eastbound I-10.
  • Eastbound I-10 at Broadway Road.
  • Eastbound U.S. 60 onto and from Mill Avenue.
  • Both HOV in both directions at I-10 and U.S. 60.

As an alternate, ADOT recommends eastbound Loop 202/Red Mountain Freeway from the I-10/State Route 51 “Mini-Stack” to southbound Loop 101/Price Freeway in Tempe to westbound Santan Freeway in Chandler to I-10.

Drivers coming from the West Valley on I-10 can use southbound/eastbound Loop 202/South Mountain Freeway to access I-10 in Chandler beyond the closure.

In addition, westbound I-10 will be narrowed to three lanes near Chandler Boulevard.

Finally, Guadalupe Road will be closed in both directions approaching I-10 from 10 p.m. today to 10 p.m. Saturday.
