New Disaster Preparedness Class Offered By The Community Emergency Response Team

The Maricopa Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) of the Fire/Medical Department will have its next 6 week FEMA class November 1-29 on Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:00 to 9:00 pm and final, team practical exam on Saturday, December 4th. No class will be held on Nov. 24th due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. Training classes will be held at the Maricopa Fire/Medical Dept. administration building at 20340 North Estrella Parkway, Maricopa.
CERT trains individuals to help themselves and their community during an emergency like a natural disaster, terrorist attack, or any other emergency situation. CERT assists the most amount of people in the least amount of time when emergency services are unavailable. Training topics include first aid, patient assessment, light search and rescue, small fire extinguishing and final practical exam in “Disasterville.”
To become a qualified CERT team member, individuals must complete the required 6-week training and final practical exam then apply to become a CERT team member and participate in support functions of the Fire/Medical Department and city activities.
