I-10 north of Ray Road. [ADOT]

Travelling to the Valley for Mother’s Day weekend? Sections of Interstate 10, Interstate 17, U.S. 60 and Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) will be closed May 12-15, according to Arizona Department of Transportation.

I-10
Drivers should allow extra travel time and plan detour routes from 10 p.m. May 12 to 4 a.m. May 15 as eastbound I-10 is closed between U.S. 60 (Superstition Freeway) and Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) as part of the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project. The following ramps will be closed:

  • Westbound U.S. 60 ramp to eastbound I-10 and westbound U.S. 60 HOV ramp to westbound I-10.
  • Westbound U.S. 60 offramp and onramp at Mill Avenue.
  • Eastbound I-10 onramp at Broadway Road.

As a detour, consider using eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) at the SR 51 Mini-Stack to southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) and westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) in Chandler to reach I-10 beyond the closure. For those travelling from I-10 in the West Valley, use southbound/eastbound Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway) to reach I-10 beyond the closure.

I-17
A closure on I-17 may affect Northern Arizona University students travelling back to the Valley for summer vacation. Southbound I-17 will be closed between Greenway Road and Northern Avenue from 9 p.m. May 12 to 5 a.m. May 15 for pavement improvements. The southbound onramp from Hills Drive and Bell Road will be closed.

As a detour, consider using eastbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) to southbound SR 51 as an alternate freeway route to downtown Phoenix. Southbound I-17 drivers also can consider exiting ahead of the closure and using southbound 19th or 35th avenues.

U.S. 60
Westbound U.S. 60 will be narrowed to three lanes between Power and Greenfield roads from 9 p.m. May 12 to 5 a.m. May 14 for pavement improvement. ADOT reminds drivers to be prepared to slow down and to merge safely in work zones.

Loop 202
Eastbound and northbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) will be closed between Val Vista Drive and U.S. 60 from 10 p.m. May 12 to 1 p.m. May 13 for pavement sealing. Westbound State Route 24 (Gateway Freeway) ramp to eastbound and northbound Loop 202 will also be closed. Crews plan to reopen Loop 202 in sections as the pavement sealing work progresses on Saturday.

Eastbound U.S. 60 is an alternate freeway route. Drivers also can consider using local streets including northbound Ellsworth or Power roads and northbound Val Vista Drive. Consider using eastbound Germann Road in areas south of Loop 202.Â
