A strong winter storm produced high winds that caused widespread damage in Maricopa on Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service officially reported gusts as high as 34 mph, however stronger wind was likely based on damage.

Winds will continue through late Wednesday, according to NWS.

At BoSa Donuts, which is under construction just south of Bahama Buck’s at Porter Road and Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway, a section of the building was flattened by high wind.

On West Shea Way, between Big 5 Sporting Goods and Walmart, a large palo verde tree was down. City crews were quickly on the scene to clear it.

Large trees were reported uprooted or snapped across the city, including a tree that snapped and fell on a car on McCord Drive in the Villages at Rancho El Dorado. A tree was uprooted in a yard in the Meadows, a homeowner reported.

At Dunkin’ on John Wayne Parkway, two trees were uprooted in front of the store.

Motorists are urged to use caution when driving in high wind as windblown objects are likely to be on roads.
