A fatal collision on the west end of Riggs Road on State Route 347 and road construction on Interstate 10 on the east end of Riggs Road has created a traffic nightmare this morning.
The northbound lanes of SR 347 remain closed between Casa Blanca Road and Riggs. Troopers are investigating a fatal collision in the area.
Arizona Department of Transportation closed I-10 eastbound from Riggs to State Route 587 as part of a bridge-repair project.
Traffic backed up on Riggs in both directions, I-10 and SR 587 because of that project before the fatal crash on SR 347. The accident and its investigation detoured interstate-bound traffic to Casa Blanca, causing more backup on that road as well.
Though ADOT reported SR 347 reopened in both directions after 9 a.m., traffic has remained slow. DPS later reported northbound lanes were still closed and would remain closed past noon.
