MFD seeks volunteers for emergency response team

The Maricopa Fire Department is seeking volunteers to participate in a training program starting May 15 to aid emergency responders in the event of a disaster.

The program runs 6:30 to 9 p.m. for six Wednesdays at the city’s Copa Center, 44585 West Honeycutt Road.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates community members for disaster preparedness operations and trains them in basic disaster response skills, including fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and medical operations during a disaster.

Featuring both classroom and field exercises the course teaches CERT members how to assist others in their neighborhood or workplace in the event professional responders are unable to immediately provide service.

Background information about the CERT program is available on the Federal Emergency Management Agency website.

For more information on registering for MFD’s program, contact city of Maricopa Deputy Fire Marshal Eddie Rodriguez at [email protected].
