Fire District Receives Needed Funds

At the August 3rd meeting of the Maricopa City Council, Mayor Kelly Anderson presented a check to the Maricopa Fire District, represented by Fire Chief Eddie Rodriguez and Fire District Board Member Don Pearce. The amount of the check, $281,200, represented builders’ fees owed to the Fire District. 100% of all fees owed have now been collected for the period from January 1, 2004 to June 30, 2004.

According to Mr. Pearce, “We will use it (the funds collected) for building new stations as soon as the deed is received to land that is promised.” Chief Rodriquez added, “It will cost over a million dollars for just a station, no equipment.” As Maricopa and the surrounding area experience even greater population growth, it will be important that new and additional fire services be available. This funding provides a base for the monies needed to build a new fire station.
