First winners of our series of Best InMaricopa contests were King (best pet photo), Fast & Friendly (car wash) and Raceway Bar & Grill's jalapeno poppers (appetizer).

Best InMaricopa is a series of community contests to find the best of everything in town.

Our first contests were for Best Appetizer, Best Pet Photo and Best Car Wash. Readers and businesses owners signed up with nominations, and our online readers voted for their favorites. Voters can vote in each contest once a day.

Thirty-two readers nominated photos of their pets. First place went to a German Rottweiler named King, who overcame the often deadly disease of Parvo to grow into a healthy, 2-year-old member of the family. A white boxer named Cosmos was second, and rescue dog Oreo was third.

“I am very exited that King won the first every Pet Photo Contest at InMaricopa.com,” said owner Kendra Mcnulty. “I feel that Kings deserves it because he’s a Parvo survivor. Thanks to Maricopa Animal Hospital, King is alive today and making me the happiest person ever. King is a protector of the family, our body guard that we cherish so much.”

In a delicious contest, Raceway Bar & Grill’s jalapeño shrimp popper beat out four other outstanding nominees for Best Appetizer.

“We’re very excited the community voted our appetizers No. 1 in Maricopa,” Ali DelCotto said. “We love them and we want everyone to come down and try them.”

Fast & Friendly Car Wash came out the victor among the three nominees for Best Car Wash.

“Car washes haven’t been prevalent, so I’m really glad that we did win and we can continue getting our name out,” manager Kyle DeVries said. “I’m actually really proud of that along with our entire team. They’re the ones that keep the place up and running, help out all the customers and provide great service.”
