Maricopa readers came early to browse the thousands of used books for sale. The selection included fiction: romance, westerns, mysteries, as well as non-fiction: cookbooks, sewing books, computer books and entire sets of encyclopedias. Media buys included videos, DVDs and music CDs.

Children’s books were the first to sell out completely. As one young mother explained, “I have five kids, and I can’t possibly afford to buy books for all of them. This sale is wonderful.”

Book lovers were able to fill an entire grocery bag for $1. The Friends realized a $250 profit, which will go toward library programming.

“Home Cookin’ from Maricopa,” a beautifully bound, three-ring cookbook, featuring over 400 recipes from local residents, was also available for $15 at the book sale. Cookbook sales (just in time for holiday gift giving), sponsored by the Friends for the benefit of the library, will continue at various locations. For further information, contact cookbook chairperson Kathy Debevec via email.
