Getting to know Nancy Taylor, athletic secretary at Maricopa High School:

85239: How long have you been a Maricopa resident?
Taylor: I have lived in Maricopa for three years.

85239: How long have you been the athletic secretary at Maricopa High School?
Taylor: I am starting my third year.

85239: What does a typical day as the athletic secretary consist of?
Taylor: A typical day at the high school is never typical. I collect all the physicals for the athletes, check eligibility and clearing status, schedule buses, pay the umpires for all the home games and make sure that someone is selling tickets (for home games). I also wait on the public when they come to the high school office.

85239: What is your favorite part of your job?
Taylor: I enjoy watching high school sports, seeing the improvement from the beginning to end of the season.

85239: What are your interests outside of work?
Taylor: When not at work I usually go to work. I know that doesn’t sound like much fun, but I own and operate my own silkscreen and embroidery business. But when I do not have work to do, my husband and I enjoy watching sports, either on TV, going to professional games or traveling to watch our nieces and nephews play sports or old neighborhood kids play.

85239: Where are you from originally?
Taylor: I grew up in Topeka, Kansas, moved to Coupeville, Washington, where we lived for 24 years raising our family in a quiet, island town. Both of my kids decided to attend college in Flagstaff at NAU, so we followed them to Arizona.
