Girl Scout Troop 1569 recently completed its service project for this year. The project was painting a foursquare and a hopscotch on the playground at Maricopa Elementary School.

The girls themselves decided to do this project as a way of saying thank you to Maricopa Elementary for allowing them to meet there on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month as part of the After School Program. After the project was finalized, troop members determined what supplies would be needed and then worked together in teams to complete the design and painting required.

“We had some challenges because the day we did it was incredibly windy with dirt flying everywhere. The girls did not complain once and got it all done in an hour. I was so proud,” explained troop leader Lisa Lewis.

Beginning in August, Troop 1569 will meet on Thursday nights from 7 to 8:30. Lewis will work with the older girls, the cadets who are ages 12-17. The new leader for the junior girls, ages 8-11, will be Addie Huckabee. Huckabee was a Girl Scout all through school and has been in a leadership position for several years. “We are very excited to have her as our junior leader,” stated Lewis.

Troop 1569 plans lots of new programs and special activities designed by girls for girls. If you are interested in membership, contact Lewis at 568-1572 or by email. “We would love for our troop to grow,” said Lewis.
