An irrigated alfalfa field may have cushioned the landing of a single-engine experimental aircraft that lost power and crashed near Honeycutt and White and Parker roads about 1:20 p.m. Monday.

None of the three people in the plane were injured.

Maricopa Police Department Public Affairs Specialist Ricardo Alvarado said the plane landed in a muddy field the landowner had been flooding and that could have softened the landing.

A Federal Aviations Administration spokesman said the agency will be investigating the accident.

A pilot of a Cessna flying nearby, who did not want to give his name, said he heard the radio call from the homebuilt plane that it was losing power. The Cessna pilot safely landed on a dirt strip nearby to go see if he could lend any help.

The tail number on the damaged plane is N33SV.

According to FAA records the plane was registered to Christopher D. Mager of Ballston Lake, N.Y.
