Fred Cole served as the Maricopa postmaster from 1955 to 1982. The post office was located in the Honeycutt Shopping Center until it was destroyed by fire in 1972. That did not stop mail delivery. Cole sorted the mail on his front porch with his staff, and it was delivered the same  day. Lost in the fire, however, were historic photos and artifacts that had been given to the postmaster for preservation.
