Independence Day weekend threatens to be wet in Maricopa, but predicted storms are expected to clear off by the big day itself.

Friday will begin with a 40-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service. The day will be mostly cloudy with a high near 98 degrees and light and variable winds. By night, the chance of rain evaporates to 20 percent, and the low will be around 79.

Saturday, there is a 10 percent chances of showers after 11 a.m. The day is forecast to be mostly sunny with a high near 104 and winds up to 10 mph from the west southwest. Overnight there remains a 10-percent chance of rain until around 11 p.m. Then skies will be mostly clear with a low around 81.
