Paint rollers Stock

A tenant has been found for the Edison Place storefront vacated by Aaron’s over a year ago.

Sherwin-Williams, an international paint and coatings retailer, is close to finalizing a lease for about 7,000 square feet of space to open a store next spring.

According to Justin Jense, director of real estate for Sherwin-Williams, the Maricopa store will be much larger than the company’s typical 4,500-square-foot retail operation.

“Communities like yours are very attractive to people like us,” he said. “We definitely want to be there and be part of the community.”

Jense said the city’s growth makes it a logical location for a store that plugs a hole in the company’s retail map. It has stores in Casa Grande and across the Valley, including two in Chandler.

Customers can expect a well-merchandised location with everything needed to complete DIY paint projects, including guidance and instruction from employees and managers, Jense said.

Sherwin-Williams will be a great fit for Maricopa and plans to be here for a long time, Jense added.

“We’re part of the community,” he said. “We have that mom-and-pop feel to our stores.”

Aaron’s closed its store on the south side of Edison Place in July 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, which negatively impacted company sales. It has since remained vacant.

Sherwin-Williams operates nearly 4,500 company-operated stores and facilities in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and Latin America. In April, the company reported 12% sales growth in the first quarter of 2021.
