Honeycutt Road wasn't quite ready for a planned closure this week.

The Arizona Department of Transportation has rescheduled the closure of Honeycutt Road at SR 347 to begin Monday, Dec. 10.

Because of weather conditions overnight Thursday, construction crews were unable to complete the traffic control changeover as scheduled.

To help ensure a safe and seamless transition, ADOT has scheduled the closure of Honeycutt Road between
SR 347 and Pershing Street, as well as the opening of Plainview Street, to begin Monday morning. Motorists should be prepared to use Plainview Street as the recommended detour in the area during their morning commutes on Monday.

The closure of Honeycutt Road, which was scheduled to start Thursday night, was postponed, according to information released at midnight by the City of Maricopa.

“Crews on scene experienced some setbacks with the traffic control changeover,” city spokesman Adam Wolfe said. “To ensure a safe and seamless transition to the detour route, it was determined that postponement would be best.”

A new date has not been scheduled.

The section of Honeycutt Road between John Wayne Parkway and Pershing Street will eventually be closed and traffic will be detoured to the new Plainview Street to access Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

The new Plainview Drive is marked for traffic.
