Inaugural Recreation Days a Success

The City of Maricopa held its first Recreation Days on Saturday, July 31, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Rotary Park and pool just off the Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. Director of Parks, Recreation, and Libraries (PRL) and event planner Marty McDonald was on hand for the festivities. “This is an opportunity for area residents to sign up for recreation classes sponsored by the Maricopa PRL, including: NFL flag football, fall Little League baseball and Maricopa Youth League soccer. Parents and their children can learn more about recreational opportunities and have a good, old-fashioned, fun time,” said McDonald.

Sponsored by Shamrock Dairy Farms and Hickman’s Egg Ranch, the day-long event offered residents the chance for a social outing with fun and food. Kenpo Karate and the M.H.S. Spirit Line performed for spectators. All Wet Scuba of Tempe offered free (a $25 value) introductory scuba diving classes. “Next year when the pool opens,” explained McDonald, “we plan to offer a youth scuba diving program called BUBBLEMAKERS.” Happy to “beat the heat”, families were allowed a “free” swim time. Well over 100 adults and children participated in this successful event.
