Ladies Time Out provides fun and friendship for local women

Everyone needs a time out once in awhile. Kids get them, whether they need them or want them. Sports teams take them to stop the play action. Ladies need time outs, too. That is why Maricopa has a new group designed specifically to allow women to get together, make new friends and enjoy different outings and events.

Ladies Time Out was the September brainchild of Gina Segarra, local business owner and exposition organizer, who is also the attendance clerk at Pima Butte Elementary School. “Too many times I hear people say ‘I don’t know anyone in town’. I wanted to start this group as a way for women in town to meet each other.”

According to Segarra, the group isn’t just about women. “We plan to involve entire families.” Previously, members of the group have enjoyed meet and greets, spa parties and events like the one held Friday, November 11, at Austin’s Gift Shop in the Bashas’ Fiesta Center.

Tina Etter, the owner of Austin’s, offered to host the mixer and even discounted merchandise for the ladies in attendance. She explained, “It has been so much fun hosting this event. It was really a pleasure, and I hope to do something like this again.”

The popularity of Ladies Time Out has created some changes for the group, which now has its own logo designed by Dawn Cater. Soon there will be a membership fee of $30, and the ladies will be doing fundraisers. Segarra noted, “Each time we do a fundraiser, we will raise money for a charity that is personally selected by one of our members. This way we raise money for things that are near and dear to us.”

Mayor Kelly Anderson was a surprise guest at the mixer. He just happened by and stopped to meet the approximately 30 ladies in attendance.. He stayed for photos and to collect signatures for his re-election petition.

Rebecca Molus came up with the idea for this event. “Maricopa is the most amazing town,” said Molus. “This group is a nice way to make friends within the community.”
